The decision to come out here to Pallaskenry was two-fold.
The first reason was a lifestyle thing and a change in lifestyle and it was just time where I said I need something different, a new direction and a new focus and this was the ideal thing for me.

It's probably an age thing but I am finding the qui
etness very therapeutic. I find that I don't get stressed as much. I was always a city boy, having been born and reared in Farranshone, but the city is changing and it is fast paced and there are more people and traffic and things like that. So I really like this different lifestyle and when I do get into the city I like coming back out.

Moving house is the most traumatic, stressful period that anyone can go through. The amounts of formality and paperwork and things being cancelled and put off is unbelievable. An example is when we first moved to this house we had to wash our teeth outside because there was no water. Moving house is very stressful and the amount of boxes that have to be packed and ticked and the amount of Ts that have to crossed and Is that have to be dotted and things like that make it very very hard to keep your normal life going. But we managed it because we planned it over a seven month period.

It is a culture shock being out here. But then again, I have noticed since I came out here there is no change in my working pattern because the phones are still ringing, I'm still getting faxes and I'm still shooting footage. The other thing about my business is that most of us are on the road three and four days a week and that varies between Donegal and Waterford.

One of the little things I noticed when I came out here was that everyone, but everyone, in Pallaskenry salutes you, no matter who you are. I have no doubt that they know who I am and where I am from because the nature of rural Ireland is that anyway and I like that because there is a great sense of security out here and friendship.

I don't really relax properly but I suppose the answer is I have to find a way. Up to now I have been working too much and I need to find a way to relax and moving out here is possibly part of that solution.

I have a huge pride in Limerick city and Limerick county and I will do anything I can to promote Limerick. For example one of the things that I do is when something is going out on Nationwide (RTÉ 1) I will email the Chamber of Commerce, the Oireachtas members, the City Council, the County Council and local journalists to let them know it's on because I feel that Limerick does get a lot of bad publicity and we notice it but we don't tend to notice when there is good stuff."
