Aubars, Thomas Street
What's my favourite pub? I do love cocktails in Aubars, but other than that it really just depends on my mood. Nancy Blake's is great for a quiet pints some nights, and then there's Flannery's pub just down the road which is always good for a crowd. One thing you can say about the city centre is that there's a great variety of pubs and nightclubs to choose from. I guess I'll have to be diplomatic about picking favourites!
Curragh Chase
I have to admit that I'm from Cork City originally, but my mum is from near Rathkeale so I've always had strong connections with Limerick. When I was young we spent loads of time here doing all the typical weekend things - we got to got to Curragh Chase a good bit. It's a beautiful spot. I suppose you say I have dual allegiances when it comes to Cork and Limerick! I followed the Limerick hurlers all last year, and I was up in Croke Park wearing green and white for last year's All-Ireland Final! But I was a bit gutted that the Cork hurlers lost to Kilkenny.
Working with a young crowd
Spin's been up and running for a year now, and I'm thrilled with how well things have been going. When I graduated in 2004 I had my heart set on getting into broadcasting. I used to do the AA Roadwatch updates on Today FM, and it was pretty cool to be going out live on shows like Matt Cooper. But when I heard that Spin were setting up I just put in my demo bits and was lucky enough that it worked out. We're a youth music station, and that's reflected in the people who work here. Everyone is around the same age and we have the same interests and tastes, and we're always going out with each other after work and stuff. It creates a great atmosphere at work.
The University of Limerick
I moved up to Limerick first when I went to study Public Administration at UL in 2000. UL is great place! It has such a terrific atmosphere about it. I graduated in 2004 and I'll admit I don't get out there as much now as I used to. But I love the look of the new developments cropping up out onto the other side of the river - the two new student villages and the living bridge. But that's not just something that's only happening in UL. There's a wave of new buildings and developments across the city today. The new pedestrian bit on Thomas Street is great - it's lending a great new energy to Limerick.
Giveamanakick
I'm lucky that part of my job involves going to gigs around the city and listening to bands, because I'd probably be doing it anyway! Limerick is a terrific place for live music, and the venues like Dolans and Trinity Rooms are unique compared to anything else in the country. And anyone can see the quality of the bands that are coming out of Limerick today - I love Giveamanakick, and there's the likes of We Should Be Dead and Fred that really stand out too. Beyond that, I'm always heading off the big music festivals like Cois Fharraige, Electric Picnic and Oxygen. I love live music.
My Typical Day
I'm definitely kept going at work, but I don't mind! Living in Dooradoyle and working in Raheen means that big commutes to work aren't an issue to start with. My show is on from 9.45, and I'm finished just before one o'clock. But from there you're always planning for tomorrow's show. On top of that, there's always other things that you need to take care of - competitions to be organised, prizes to be sorted. I look after the music news section of the website too, so I might have some updating to do there. I'm only on air for a few hours, but it's a full-time job!
