Ms Chawke had several distant relatives in the city, including the Gleeson family, proprietors of the Spar shop in Catherine Street, and Steve Gleeson, who owns Gleeson's Sports Store in Upper William Street.
Ms Chawke was also a cousin of the well-known Limerick-born publican – and friend of ex-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern – Charlie Chawke.
Three other Irish people were killed on Australia's roads in the same week. They were Gerard Duggan, his brother Paul, and Diarmuid Aldun, all 26 and from Dublin.
