A MAN who was accused of devastating his wife by bedding her mother was behind bars in Limerick prison at the time of the alleged 'tryst', the Limerick Leader can exclusively reveal.
The wife who made the allegation of infidelity, Fiona Porter, had used it as an excuse for the drink driving charge she was convicted of this week.

Hugo Porter, who is originally from Castleconnell, began a six-month sentence which was handed down at Limerick District Court for driving offences just two days before he supposedly slept with his mother-in-law.

The 34-year-old was "safely ensconced in Limerick prison" on Friday night, according to a number of legal, prison and garda sources, when his wife Fiona claimed to have found the pair in bed together at her home in Moyross.

Ms Porter, with an address at Ballygrennan Close, avoided a jail-term this week after she claimed she was so devastated at what she discovered that she breached her disqualification from driving by drink-driving.

The Limerick Leader learned of Mr Porter's incarceration when a family
member rang this newspaper and disputed the evidence presented in court by Ms Porter's defence solicitor, John Devane.

"A terrible injustice has been done and the Limerick Leader should print the truth," the family member said.

When contacted by the Leader, Mr Devane conceded that his client's story was not accurate and that Mr Porter was not, in fact, in bed with his mother-in-law on the night of his wife's arrest.

He added, however, that "the substance of the case remains the same".
