A trial date has been set in the case of a man who is accused of making a false statement to gardai about Minister Willie O'Dea.
The Defence Minister will be the main witness in the court case which was scheduled for hearing on September 18.

Matthew Larkin, 36, of Altamira Court, Thomondgate, made the statement at Henry Street Garda Station on October 5, 2007.

The statement concerned an alleged incident in a city pub on September 22 last year involving Minister O'Dea.

At an earlier court sitting, Inspector Seamus Ruane said that "proceedings will be conducted by the State solicitor" because "the witness is a government minister".

At Limerick court this Wednesday, solicitor Ted McCarthy, on behalf of Mr Larkin, said he had been furnished with statements in the interim and CCTV footage from one camera from the public house. "I only received footage from one camera and I understand that there's at least two others," he said.

Detective Sergeant Kevin McHugh of Henry Street Crime Office said: "We have furnished all the CCTV that we have. I can go through it with Mr McCarthy."

Mr Larkin is due before the court again on September 18.
