ANDY Lee could be back in the ring in Limerick's UL Arena this October.
Limerick's star professional boxer is back in Ireland this week to work as a boxing analyst on RTE's Beijing Olympic Games boxing coverage while the Castleconnell man is due to meet promoter Brian Peters later this week for discussions about his next bout.
"I got some time off to come over to work on the Olympics and then I will go back to America at the end of the month," explained the 2004 Athens Olympian.
"I will be fighting again in mid-to-end of October and there is a possibility that it could be in Limerick," confirmed the former St. Francis Boxing Club member.
"I am due to meet Brian Peters this week to see how things are looking and then we will also take a look and see what is available in America - we need to keep all possibilities open."
Last month the 24-year-old middleweight got his pro-career back on track with a victory over Willie Gibbs in the UL Sports Arena.
In the aftermath of that victory, cuts from accidental clashes of heads during the third and 10th rounds, caused most concern to the Lee camp.
"They have healed up now," said Lee of the cuts sustained in his 16th pro-win which came by way of a 10th round stoppage. However the cut over his right eye is causing concern.
"That has opened a couple of times now and I won't be fighting until that eye is ready."
All going according to plan, Lee could fight at least twice and maybe three times before the end of the year.
And he made yet need surgery on that eye injury during his Christmas break.
For now Lee is cheering on Ken Egan, Paddy Barnes and Darren Sutherland from the RTE studios in Dublin.
"I never did anything like this before - the first day was so hard. I have fought in front of thousands of people, but this was different, even though I was talking about a familiar subject," said the Limerick man of his role as analyst alongside Bernard Dunne, Michael Carruth and Mick Dowling.
"I still look at the Olympics and wonder, how would I do?," said Lee.
"But there are no guarantees in the Olympics - two World Champions went out in the first round," he explained.
"A lot has happened in the four years - I did the best thing for me personally. I was offered a very good contract for a chance of a lifetime and it was too good to turn down."
Meanwhile Limerick's other pro-boxer Jamie Power is awaiting news of his opponent for his September 13 clash. His third ever pro fight takes place in the Neptune Sports Arena in Cork.
