THE Gaelic Grounds will host Limerick's All-Ireland qualifier clash with Offaly on July 12, despite the Ennis Road venue hosting the Munster senior hurling championship final just 24 hours later.
Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock was muted as a possible venue for the backdoor encounter, but Limerick GAA chiefs have confirmed that the Gaelic Grounds will host the game, which will have a 7.00pm start on the Saturday evening.
If Limerick overcome The Faithful County, they will be back in action the following weekend, with Galway or Waterford the most likely opponents.
For Richie Bennis it will be a fourth meeting with the midlanders in two years.
Limerick have won the three previous games, including Bennis' first game in charge of his native county in the 2006 qualifiers in Tullamore.
Limerick were also successful in last season's NHL relegation play-off and were 5-19 to 1-17 winners in this season's league in March.
"For Offaly this is the dream draw - Dublin and Offaly wanted to get Limerick in the draw and avoid Cork," said the Limerick manager.
"There was no easy draw. Offaly had Kilkenny on the run for 20-25 minutes," he stated.
Ahead of the make-or-break game, Limerick will almost certainly be without Adare duo Wayne McNamara and Conor Fitzgerald.
Another on the injured list is the unfortunate Denis Moloney.
The Doon man was the star performer when his side defeated Patrickswell in the club championship last weekend, however he sustained a toe injury in the course of the game.
Initially it was thought he had broken a bone, but x-ray results have shown just severe bruising, which gives him every chance of being available for selection.
All other squad members came though last weekend with their clubs, unscathed.
However, a number will be in football action this weekend, which is causing some headaches for the hurling management.
"If we pick up any more injuries over the weekend, we will be in trouble," he warned.
After the disappointing loss to Clare, Limerick regrouped 24 hours later for a squad meeting.
"We spoke about it and while the response was down, we are picking it up," he explained.
Last weekend was spent back with the clubs, but training on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of this week have the squad back in harness.
"We will be back on track - you don't become a bad team overnight," said Bennis.
"We can beat anyone on our day."
