THE US rugby fraternity will host the second annual Setanta Challenge Cup, which pits the US Eagles against Munster at the Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday next August 23 - the match will kick-off at 3pm local time.
When the sides collided in last year's inaugural event Munster won a hard-fought encounter 10-6.
Reflecting on the challenge faced by the Eagles the US national team head coach Scott Johnson explained how excited he was by the prospect of facing the 2008 Heineken Cup champions: "We are extremely excited to be playing Munster in Hartford.
"There's no doubt that this will be an extremely physical match and I encourage Irish and US fans alike to come watch what promises to be some very good rugby.
"Not only does this match allow us essential competition against a high level opponent, but we get to play in a great city where I have no doubt the community will come out and support both teams."
Last week the Eagles faced and lost to ASM Clermont Auvergne 37-14 at the Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina.
Speaking ahead of the event newly-installed Munster coach Tony McGahan explained how his side were looking forward to their first game of the 2008-09 season: "We are, of course, looking forward to this match. Last year's trip proved very beneficial both in terms of the match itself and the subsequent season.
"While it's a great honour to play against international opposition this game also represents the ideal type of preparation ahead of the new season and we are certainly looking forward to our trip to Boston."
Prior to the match the Boston Munster will spend the week training at the Irish Cultural Center.
With the exception of Denis Leamy, David Wallace, James Coughlan and Ciaran O'Boyle a full-strength Munster squad has traveled across the atlantic.
Munster Squad: Tony Buckley, Brian Carney, Ian Dowling, Keith Earls, Jerry Flannery, Denis Fogarty, Billy Holland, Anthony Horgan, Denis Hurley, Darragh Hurley, John Hayes, Marcus Horan, Doug Howlett, Kieran Lewis, Lifeimi Mafi, Jeremy Manning, Mark Melbourne, Barry Murphy, Donncha O'Callaghan, Paul O'Connell, Tommy O'Connell, Mick O'Driscoll, Ronan O'Gara, Tomas O'Leary, John O'Sullivan, Frederico Pucciariello, Mike Prendergast, Alan Quinlan, Niall Ronan, Donnacha Ryan, Frankie Sheahan, Peter Stringer, Rua Tipoki & Paul Warwick.
